Private Last Mile

The Internet Explorer browser on my machine is IE 9. When I try to select the Enable IE Native Browser Agent option in the Preferences for Private Last Mile, this option is grayed out.

Private Last Mile does not support Internet Explorer 9, so if your machine has IE 9, the Enable IE Native Browser Agent option cannot be selected.

You could upgrade IE to a supported release. See the Private Last Mile System Requirements in the documentation for the latest information on supported environments.

Another option is to install the private peer that includes a built-in virtual machine and uses IE 8. Contact Customer Support to request this installer.

Root Cause

Internet Explorer 9 is not supported.

Before You Begin

If you require a private peer that includes a built-in virtual machine, contact Customer Support for assistance.

If you plan to install Private Last Mile on a machine that is already running Last Mile, uninstall Last Mile and delete any folders that were created for that installation before downloading Private Last Mile.

Before beginning the installation, make sure you have at least 100 MB of disk space available for the installation program.

During installation, Private Last Mile writes the peer's application information into the Windows registry.

The user installing the agent must have local administrator privileges for the host machine; otherwise, the gomezpeer service will not start properly.

To have access to the downloads page for the private peer, you must log in to the Dynatrace Portal with an Account Admin, Account Primary, Test Admin, or Scripter profile.

  1. Download the installation program.

    1. Log in to the Dynatrace Portal.

    2. At the top of the window, click Setup Tests, then click Downloads.

      The Downloads page appears.
    3. Click the Download Private Last Mile Software link.
The Opening PrivatePeer.exe dialog box appears.

    4. Click Save File.
The file is downloaded to your downloads directory, depending on your browser options.

  2. Go to the directory where PrivatePeer.exe was downloaded, and double-click the file to begin installation.

The Welcome screen of the installation wizard appears.

  3. Click Next.

    The License Agreement screen appears.

  4. Select I accept the terms of the License Agreement, then click Next.

The Choose Install Location screen appears.

  5. Specify a destination folder, or accept the default.
The default installation folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Dynatrace\PrivateLastMile.

If you do not want to install Private Last Mile in the default directory, click Browse to navigate to the location where you want to install it.

  6. Click Next.

    The Configuration screen appears.

  7. In the Name for the PC field, specify the machine name.

This name will be used to register Private Last Mile on this computer.

The current machine name is used by default. If you specify a different name, follow the guidelines provided on the screen.

  8. If you are going to run IE Agent tests, provide the Account Name and Account Password in the Log On As area.

If you will not be running IE Agent tests, this information is not required. You can leave the fields blank and proceed with the next step. If the fields are blank, the gomezpeer service will run as a local account by default.

The account name is used to log on to the gomezpeer service and to register Private Last Mile on the machine.

The gomezpeer account can be any valid domain account, but it is recommended that you create a local user account that is only used by the gomezpeer service. It must be a member of the local administrators group of the target machine.

For a domain account, use the syntax DomainName\UserName.

The default value for Account Name is the username with which you logged in to the peer machine. For example, if you logged in to machine TLMVC9PP02 with the username devuser, the Account Name field automatically displays TLMVC9PP02\devuser.

  9. Click Install.

After the installation is finished, the Installation Complete screen appears.

  10. Click Next.

The Completing the Private Last Mile Setup Wizard screen appears. By default, the options to open the Private Last Mile window immediately and to launch the window at startup are selected.

  11. Clear any option you do not want, then click Finish.

What to Do Next

When you click Finish in the installation wizard, the Preferences dialog box opens so you can configure Private Last Mile. For more information, see Configuring Private Last Mile.
