To upgrade an instance of MS SQL Server Standard Edition, review the prerequisites and execute the upgrade procedure.
You can upgrade instances of, SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, or SQL Server 2008 R2 , and SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2014. SQL Server 2005 is not supported in the 12.4 release. The upgrade is mandatory if your current instance is SQL Server 2005. Otherwise, you will not be able to install the DC RUM 12.4 components. We recommend to upgrade your SQL server to the latest supported release.
You can install SQL Server 2014 side by side with an earlier version and migrate existing databases and configuration settings from an earlier SQL Server version, and apply them to an instance of SQL Server 2014, however, a standard Installation Wizard upgrade is recommended. In short, follow the steps of procedure below. Microsoft provides detailed instruction on upgrading the SQL Server instance. See the Upgrade to SQL Server 2014 Technet article for details.
The procedure below assumes you are upgrading to SQL Server 2014.
From the root folder of the installation CD-ROM, double-click the setup.exe file.
The installation wizard launches the SQL Server Installation Center.
Click Upgrade from SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, or SQL Server 2012.
The installation wizard examines the current installation and indicates any issues that must be corrected before the setup can continue.
Click Next to continue.
The installation wizard prompts you to select which SQL Server instance to upgrade. Select the correct instance and click Next.
If only one instance is installed, retain the default options and click Next to continue.
Click Next to accept the default values and informational lists and continue.
At the Full-text Upgrade step, select Import and click Next to continue.
At the Error and Usage Reporting step, select not to send SQL Server Error Reports to Microsoft, and then click Next.
Do not send any data outside your network; clear all options.
At the Upgrade Rules step, specify whether the upgrade process will be blocked and which rules need to be corrected and click Next to continue.
At the Ready to Upgrade step, examine the summary of the upgrade and click Upgrade to begin the upgrading process.
After the upgrade process completes, the current version of the MS SQL Server is MS SQL Server 2014 and you are ready to use it for the DC RUM 12.4 components.
