Sensor Pack Information

To diagnose JDBC use dynaTrace_DBConnectionPoolKSP_v1.0.zip
To diagnose ADO.NET use ADO.NET Connection Sensor Pack for dynaTrace 2.5 or ADO.NET Connection Sensor Pack for dynaTrace 3.0

Installation

  1. Save the attached files locally to the computer where the dynaTrace Diagnostics Client is installed.
  2. Unzip the file
  3. In the dynaTrace Diagnostics Client, right-click on the Diagnostics Server and select 'Preferences...'.
  4. Click on "Sensor Packs"
  5. Click on the "Import..." button.
  6. Navigate to the directory where you extracted the .dtdcs files, select either the JDBC or ADO.NET .dtdcs|.dtcs file and click "Open"

You can confirm successful import by observing the DatabaseConnectionPool Sensor Pack and/or the ADO.NET Connection in the Sensor Packs Panel. This Knowlege Sensor Pack is now Placed and Active within all System Profiles on this Diagnostics Server.

Exercise any database queries.

For the JDBC Sensor Pack:
The dynaTrace Diagnostics screens will now include information about the DataBase getConnection methods to determine the time it takes to get a connection per transaciton.

For ADO.NET Sensor Pack:
The dynaTrace Diagnostics screens will now include information about the IDbConnection getConnection method and the connection strings that have been used. ADO.NET Connection Pooling is done per connection string - therefore the information about the actual connection string can give you an indication about which connection pool was used by the getConnection method.

Both Sensor Packs may be helpful in production to graph and alert on these methods as they are indicators to saturated connection pools.
