Hello,

background-information:

https://www.spotlightcloud.io/blog/monitoring-page-life-expectancy-in-sql-server

We'd like to monitor the page life expectancy of mssql servers, or so-to-say the process groups.

The issue there is that we need to alert it according to a formular:
Alert if Page life expectancy (in minutes) < (SQL Server "Total" Memory in GB / 4 * 300)

Now, I can do metrics and set static values on that. I do not know how Dynatrace calculates the automatic treshhold there, but in my experience this did not alert at any time for servers which certainly have this issue.

Is there a way to set a formula to calculate dynamic treshholds, or to generate a metric / treshhold reflecting this?

how did you set your static thresholds/alerts? did you create a custom event for alerting?

Yes, I tried to create a custom event for the static threshold. The issue there is that this does not seem to accept a formula, so I'd have to configure it for every sql database (which are quite a lot here), and keep track of changes adopting it. That's what I don't want to have, I want the threshold to adopt according to the total memory.

Ahh I see. Well then i would recommend tossing in a RFE to alert the product developers of this limitation and hopefully be worked into the upcoming updates.

https://community.dynatrace.com/t5/forums/postpage/board-id/DynatraceProductIdeas

In case somebody searches for this, I created an RFE:

https://community.dynatrace.com/spaces/483/dynatrace-product-ideas/idea/245941/formulas-on-metrics.html
