Embed Dynatrace Dashboards in IFrame

Is it possible to embed the Dynatrace dashboards in IFrames? If not, is there another method to show the dashboards within another BI tool dashboard?

I don't see why not, I've been able to embedded a different dashboard from the server in our web tile (which I believe is based on iFrame). Might look a bit strange as it still had the header though.

Hi Eric! Yes, its a deliberate decision to not allow embedding Dynatrace UI externally, which is not just about dashboards. If you really want to bring statistics from Dynatrace to a different product, I suggest checking out the Dynatrace API: https://www.dynatrace.com/support/help/dynatrace-api/

Hi @Roman W. - What are some of the reasons for not allowing iFrame support? I know that the customer might press this issue, and try to get the lab's support in an RFE. I would rather be able to give them at least some good clear reasons as to why we don't intentionally support it.

Using iframes poses a potential threat to both the embedding site and the site being embedded. So data protection and overall security are definitely the primary reasons to generally stay away from them. I'm certain, that there will be an alternative approach for your customer. Could you please describe the scenario and the reasons why they consider iframes in more detail?

Hi @Roman W.

The customer would like to display Dynatrace data in their Microstrategy reports that executives use on a daily basis. They would like to have Green/Red status from Dynatrace problem cards included in their ad-hoc reports that are generated from Microstrategy. While I've addressed their concern with the capabilities of the API, they would prefer iframes, but are willing to use the API to retrieve the Dynatrace data. It just requires additional work on their end to take the JSON docs, and publish them into some sort of chart, or availability graph.

Thanks for providing the details! Obviously, leveraging any API requires some effort but the result will be much more tailored to their needs than it would have been possible with an iframe-workaround. I'd be eager to hear about the outcome!

Hi @Roman W.,

I just came across the very same limitation which is quite painful for us at SAP. For example, all our monitors in the hallways are equipped with a software that only displays content via iframes.

Since the creation of this community question, there's a new feature available which allows to share a dashboard without a login ("Users with this link can access"). Wouldn't it be possible to allow such a dashboard to be displayed in an iframe without the security concerns?

We are currently experiencing similar issues. Dynatrace does not currently provide digital signage type features and capabilities with their dashboards. Since 2018 (when this post was first created) digital signage has grown and is everywhere from corporate building entrance ways to department hall ways. All for providing constant visual access to health of either a server, application, or event (BlackFriday). We went with Dynatrace in order to gather all this data and because of its Dashboards but now we have all these monitors deployed throughout our building and we can't easily get Dynatrace dashboards to appear on them. Allowing a dashboard to be in an iframe would provide an immediate resolution without any technical overhead.

1.5 years later, has Dynatrace given more thought to this?

Hi,

I'm reviving the subject 2 years later with a little hope. We were using this feature (iFrame) with AppMon and it worked great and it was convenient, but unfortunately since we switched to Dynatrace Managed this is no longer possible . An important project in our company used the integration of dashboards, which is no longer possible with Dynatrace, and therefore we end up without data . We want to know if things have improved to find a solution to this obstacle apart from using the API.

I have a similar need where support engineers are responsible for monitoring many more dashboards than they have monitors and i would like to use an iframe to rotate the dashboards in the iframe. a different dashboard can show for like 5 secs or so before going to the next dashboard in the list. Also i wonder if there is a way to detect if part of the screen is RED. Haven't started investigating that question but will soon.
