What if we do not follow the deployment order of ActiveGates?

How to provide the Cluster ActiveGate public address to the Environment ActiveGate?

Do we need to provide the Cluster ActiveGate public address to the Environment ActiveGate even if we do not connect external OneAgent to the Dynatrace environment?

AS a managed customer you do not NEED an activegate as there is an internal one in your managed deployment. You will however, need an activegate if you want to go outside your infrastructure or if you want internal synthetic monitoring. for example:

Oneagnets monitoring your internal infrastructure - No AG needed for Managed

Synthetics monitors hitting publicly accessible sites - No AG needed for Managed

Synthetics monitors hitting INTERNAL sites - AG NEEDED

Data going out external - Like to the Dynatrace Mobile app/Davis online - AG NEEDED

Memory Dump Retention - AG Needed

If you have a 3 clustered node then each node essentially has its own AG, and if one host goes down then the other two will continue on running and the oneagents will report to those other two and so on.

Thank you for your comments.

We use the environment AG to avoid the firewalls and to take other benefits of this component.

If I am not mistaken, we need Cluster AG for the external web-based Synthetic traffic and synthetic enabled environment AG.

Still, I am interested in the answers to the below questions:

What if we do not follow the deployment order of ActiveGates?
How to provide the Cluster ActiveGate public address to the Environment ActiveGate?
Do we need to provide the Cluster ActiveGate public address to the Environment ActiveGate even if we do not connect external OneAgent to the Dynatrace environment?

You don't need to of course. OneAgent (OA) and AG receive all the addresses of AGs. From the list some are prioritized (for instance OA picks at first Env AG and not Cluster AG). If one address is not available OA will pick another one from the list that may lead to connect to Cluster AG or even directly to the cluster node. You can also configure NetworkZones to have better control on the routing - see https://www.dynatrace.com/support/help/setup-and-configuration/network-zones/

2. How to provide the Cluster ActiveGate public address to the Environment ActiveGate?

It's already there. Environment AG is aware of the Cluster AG address. However Env AG will firstly try to connect to a cluster node instead of Cluster AG. You can change this through network zones.

3. Do we need to provide the Cluster ActiveGate public address to the Environment ActiveGate even if we do not connect external OneAgent to the Dynatrace environment?

If you don't have external OA, not Synthetic, nor external RUM, you don't need public address for Cluster AG.

Apologize if my question was not clear 🙂

When we install the Dynatrace Server/Node, it contains the following components.

Pre-configured Java Runtime Environment.
Cassandra-based Hypercube storage.
Elasticsearch-based search engine.
Dynatrace Server.
An embedded ActiveGate.

Which embedded ActiveGate part of the node (Environment AG/or Cluster AG/or simply an ActiveGate without any specific name?

Ah so I understand what ActiveGate is actually embedded into the cluster node, right? We call it "Embedded AG" which is actually a 3rd type next to Cluster AG and Environment AG. In fact these all are same ActiveGates with some different configuration. That Embedded AG is typically responsible for OneAgent traffic routing, and passing all the data from outside of node to the server to be processed and stored.
