My company is looking to install Dynatrace as an on-premise service and then move to SaaS. We will be using Dynatrace to monitor our AWS instances. What database does Dynatrace use to store its metric data (on Dynatrace managed and Dynatrace SaaS)? And what is recommended to backup this data? Thanks!

Dynatrace manages a clustered long term metric store that automatically handles the replication of your metric data. So Dynatrace makes sure that your metric data is always available. Dynatrace uses a NoSQL database to store the long term metrics.

Please see following help page for how to backup your Dynatrace data.

https://help.dynatrace.com/dynatrace-managed/dynatrace-server/how-do-i-backup-dynatrace-server/

This actually does not anser the question posted. I know Cassandra is used for one component. What is used for the other? MongoDB, NoSQL, other...?

Dynatrace uses Cassandra for long term metric store and configuration, Elastic for real user session analysis and our own implementation of a highly optimized storage for the huge amount of recorded and linked transactions.

See here:

https://help.dynatrace.com/dynatrace-managed/dynatrace-server/which-network-ports-does-dynatrace-server-use/
