You should be fine with a smaller size.

If you set the disks up with LVM it is easy to extend them later if the need for more storage arises.

When
sizing Dynatrace Managed cluster for 3 nodes, we need medium size nodes because
of the number of user actions, but we only have 30 hosts. Is there any problem
if we assign less storage for long term metrics. For exmaple 1TB instead of the
required 2.5TB for medium size nodes?

Size of storage is calculated for default data retention and parameters that are listed in sizing table. I think you should try for how long 1TB will work for you. If long term data will be available to short, you should consider to extend it.

Sebastian
