Hello:

Our Monitoring/Dynatrace team is having discussions with our application performance team.

They are taking open recommendations for tools that will allow them to simulate high levels of user traffic

with scripts simulating end user traffic (similar to recorded synthetics)

Does anyone have a list of tools that they as Dynatrace users leverage that compliment Dynatrace well?

The end goal would be the new tools generates the traffic... and Dynatrace reports the data.

Thank you so much for your collective knowledge and please share!

-runatyr

IMO, k6 for opensource testing options. Can send data into Dynatrace using either Statsd or OTEL export options.
Also an active community that is constantly adding additions to the base for additional capabilities.

At the end of the day, doesn't really matter which one you use; you're not getting anything out of the box in Dynatrace, its all raw data. It's all about training the PNV team to use Dynatrace & Dynatrace concepts (how services are captured) and how to source the data they need to build the required dashboards.
PNV Adoption will need to include learning topics like transaction naming, key transactions, SLO/SLI, multi dimensional analysis, dashboards, tracing, request attributes looking & potentially the new business events.

That's without even moving onto the really fun topics like automating testing and validations : here's some lite reading over a couple of blogs.

think along these lines, on deployment:

- trigger a default set of PNV tests

- get & validate the results (automated and based of SLI / SLO)

- send the results to xxx

- Roll back deployment if it's a dud.

Accelerate and empower Site Reliability Engineering with Dynatrace observability
Automate CI/CD pipelines with Dynatrace: Part 1, Build stage
Automate CI/CD pipelines with Dynatrace: Part 2, Deploy stage
Automate CI/CD pipelines with Dynatrace: Part 3, Testing stage
Automate CI/CD pipelines with Dynatrace: Validation stage

Enjoy
