topic OneAgent connectivity matrix behavior in Open Q&A

Hi,

OneAgent gets its connectivity matrix (info about ActiveGate endpoints etc.) from Dynatrace once connected.

How does it work together with the --set-server parameter we can use via oneagentctl?

a) Does the --set-server parameter stick forever or will those be replaced once connected with updated info?

b) Are ActiveGate addresses thrown out of connectivity info if they are offline (how soon does this happen, if so)?

I am thinking about a theoretical scenario:

We have 2 ActiveGates, #2 is down for a longer period of time (e.g. month(s)) > does OneAgent connected to #1 still know ActiveGate #2 and for how long?

Then ActiveGate #1 goes down before ActiveGate #2 is up > would the OneAgent be able to connect to ActiveGate #2?

a) it will be replaced if any from the updated endpoints are reachable. if none of the endpoints are reachable, it will be preserved
b) yes, it's removed after a while (not sure about precise period, but I think its available until the AG is still present in the Dynatrace UI which is 7 days)

And to your scenario - OneAgent won't be able to connect to AG #2 as it will be eventually removed from the endpoint lists and this update will be pushed. However OneAgents preserve the last valid communication endpoint list.
