topic Database Association/Naming in Open Q&A

I have been racking my brain on this and I cannot get clarity on this.

So we can set geo location site via the UI under Web and Mobile Monitoring>Map IP... and i see them in listed as GEO Sites. So there is no question there.

My question, is where is Dynatrace deriving the VMWare Datacenter name? Point being we have a set of VMWare instances and we can see that they all have the same name. For this example, I'll use "North Pole" and "South Pole" as the example:
In Green, we can see 4 VMWare Data Centers listed as "North Pole"
In Purple, we can see 4 VMWare Data Centers listed a "South Pole"
In Yellow, we can see the GEO Sites that have been set.

Focusing on the Green and Purple, North/South Pole. I checked out the VMWare Instances that we have connected to.

It may be hard to tell but those 8 connections, all have a different name overall. Yes they start the same like "North Pole" but then end with "Elves" or "Santa" or "Penguins". So we would expect to have 4 "green" North Pole data centers but they would all have a unique name. And not just "North Pole".

So I don't think it is deriving the Data Center name from the VMWARE connection. And even looking at the VMware ESXi Host page where all the other hosts live on, I don't see any metadata that pairs up with the name.

So, to my question.... Where is that name derived from?

Found it, Its pulled via your VMware/VCenter connection. So if "North Pole" is used as each Datacenter name even though its the DR for "North Pole" the name is the same.

I'll create an RFE that will ask for the ability to rename Datacenter with an alias much like we can do with Hosts, Services etc.. So now I can call the Data Center "North Pole Primary" and "North Pole Failover"
