Hello alll,

So you in Dynatrace you can:

"Excluding traces for specific HTTP and RPC requests from being captured.",

Is is correct for me to assume:

1) this will not work for static pages, they already have a fixed sample rate

2) this will only work if the request is an entry point (start of trace)

Who can confirm above, and save people some trouble shoot time?

Hey,
IMO it looks like this:

1. Static pages/resources
The “exclude HTTP/RPC requests from being captured” feature applies to server-side requests on services monitored by OneAgent (NGINX/Apache/Tomcat/.NET, etc.).

If you mean RUM resources (CSS/JS/IMG in the browser), those are not traces, so these rules don’t affect them.

If a static file is served by a monitored web server and appears as a Web request service, you can exclude it with a rule by URL/method—this will work.

2. Only for entry points?
No. The rule:

Prevents starting a new trace for a matching request (no root trace will be created).

If the request occurs inside an already started trace, the matching span/service can also be dropped at that point—but this won’t stop the rest of the trace that began elsewhere.
