SNMP Extension For Printer Metrics

Has anyone used or created a new SNMP extension specifically for printer metrics, like out of paper, toner problem, critical failure etc.

If you have written one and willing to share would be appreciated.

You will have to check which ones apply in your case, as printers are definitely not standard. Nonetheless, there is a printer MIB, RFC3805. There are at least three ways to approach this:

Do SNMP polling with the printer MIB, or other specific printer MIBs.
Configure trap reception, but you'll have to figure out how to configure it in your printers.
Get the information from the hosts that control the printers, with WMI, for instance.

Given your requirements, I would go with #2.

I know of one case where we have done it, but I cannot share it.
