topic Why too many sessions appears with one or two user actions in Dynatrace SaaS RUM when access to apps is through F5? in Real User Monitoring

Hi All,

I'm monitoring apps with Dynatrace SaaS. My Web Applications shown several domains and I separated domains and grouped in 2 apps. After that, too many user sessions began appear with no more than 2 user actions. That produces an sessions explosion and produces consumption of DEM licenses. Applications are served by web servers on WebLogic and they are below an F5 load balancer with policy LTM.

Any help is welcome

Thanks & Regards

When using several domains within one application you need to make sure that the Dynatrace cookies are set to the common top level domain. If the domains do not have a common top level domain Dynatrace can't correlate user actions from different domains to one user session as the browser does not allow to set cookies cross top level domains.

You can adjust the top level domain in the advanced settings for your application. In order to better assist you, please open a support ticket.

Thanks Alexander,

We have opened a support ticket. Meanwhile, we have tested the applications connecting directly to the nodes, that is, without going through the F5 load balancer, and the problem doesn't occur, so maybe F5 settings have something. Another test was to remove all applications configured and only use default My Web Application, and the problem still present.

Again, If there is someone who has experience using RUM with F5, please share it.

Thanks & Regards

ETV
