Deprecation of Web Form Authentication in Single-URL Browser Monitors

The “Web form” option in the authentication method dropdown for single-URL browser monitors has been deprecated.

To test scenarios involving web form login, you need to create a browser clickpath monitor with separate steps for each action required during the login process.

💡 This change does not affect the cost of executing browser monitors.

Existing monitors using the deprecated option will continue to run. However, Dynatrace strongly recommends re-recording them as clickpath monitors to ensure better visibility into each login step. Re-recording is mandatory if you want to modify any part of the monitor’s configuration. Saving changes in the current format will no longer be possible.

For single-URL monitors with web form login that are not re-recorded, Dynatrace version 324 will automatically update the configuration by adding a free JavaScript step to support the login process

Thank you for sharing your doubts. Let me try to provide some more context.

This change simplifies how the configuration of browser monitors is stored in Dynatrace and presented to users. As a consequence, execution results can now be displayed more clearly: we will be showing them for each step of the logging procedure, making the root cause analysis (RCA) process more efficient. We also believe this will make it easier to review existing monitor setups and apply updates directly at the script level.

Do you see any disadvantages of handling webform login cases with multi-step clickpath browser monitors?
