What does the "Synthetic Engine Health Check" actually check?

We use Cluster Active Gates for Private Synthetic Monitoring in Dynatrace Managed and want to implement automated checks for our Private Synthetic Locations. While implementing them, we've noticed that there's a "Synthetic Engine Health Check" status reported in the Cluster Active Gate section of CMC:

What exactly does this health check verify? Does it test, whether browser and http monitors can be actually executed from this location or is it more like a low-level health check of the process?
