Hi,

I’m migrating my RUM monitoring from Frontend classic to Experience Vitals.

In the classic Frontend app I configured to get session properties from sessionStorage in this way:

- Source type: JavaScript variable
- Captured expression: sessionStorage.myVariable

How can I do the same with Experience Vitals?

Thanks

Hi Tommaso,

Thanks for reaching out! I put together a Community article that covers exactly this scenario, migrating session property capture from sessionStorage to Experience Vitals. You can find the steps here:

[https://community.dynatrace.com/t5/Troubleshooting/Session-properties-missing-in-the-new-RUM-Experience/ta-p/303178](https://community.dynatrace.com/topic/303178)

Let me know if that gets you where you need to be, or if you run into any issues following it.

Thanks,
Aaron Schultz

Hi Aaron,

I’ve checked the guide but in this one is mentioned the option **JavaScript variable** while in my settings is present **Access property** instead. Anyway, if I try to select Access property and put as a value sessionStorage.myVariable I don’t see collected the session property. Should I do anything different?

thanks

Hello Tommaso,

After creating the custom event property, did you also use [OpenPipline](https://docs.dynatrace.com/docs/platform/openpipeline) to enrich the user sessions? Custom events are stand alone and you should be able to view them in Notebooks and Dashboards.

I would first use DQL to check to be sure that your data is being collected as expected:

Example of DQL Statement to run in Notebook:

```markup
fetch user.events
| filter isNotNull(event_properties.react.router_version) // Add your event_propterties.custom_name_here
| fields start_time, user.identifier, event_properties.username, event_properties.react.router_version
| limit 10
```

If you see data for that event, you can then enrich your session using OpenPipeline. I created an article on how to use it with username, but setup is similar for Session Properties:

[https://community.dynatrace.com/t5/Troubleshooting/How-to-display-user-names-in-new-RUM-Experience-using-the-UI/ta-p/303682](https://community.dynatrace.com/topic/303682)

The only difference when looking at the article is when you create the OpenPipeline, you are going to use

```markup
fieldsAdd session_properties.custom_name_here
```

instead of

```markup
user.identifier
```

Example:

_Note: Do not forget to create a Dynamic Pipeline as well, or this pipeline will not work._
