# Unable to update ActiveGate

## Self Service Summary

Dynatrace ActiveGate automatic updates are failing.

| Dynatrace ActiveGate automatic updates are failing. | Check the versions that are installed for the ActiveGate and Extensions module. | Check logs and empty certain folder. | Raise a support ticket. |

Check the version that are present on the ActiveGate itself and the Extensions module in the Dynatrace page, deployment status.

If there is a difference in the versions, please check the logs,&nbsp;[ActiveGate directories — Dynatrace Docs](https://www.dynatrace.com/support/help/shortlink/sgw-files),&nbsp;based on your operating system and look for&nbsp;dynatracegateway.\*.log and look for this entry:

_RemotePluginModule auto update check finished with error: Autoupdate: Installer file download abandoned: installer file already exists._

If you find this entry, please follow below steps

1. Remove packages for Linux&nbsp;`Path: /var/lib/dynatrace/packages`&nbsp;or for Windows&nbsp;`Path: %PROGRAMDATA%\dynatrace\packages`
2. Reinstall the new version by clicking on update from the Dynatrace UI.

If this issue persists, you might consider un-installing the ActiveGate([Uninstall ActiveGate — Dynatrace Docs](https://www.dynatrace.com/support/help/setup-and-configuration/dynatrace-activegate/operation/uninstall-activegate)) and perform a clean install or raise a support ticket and we can further assist.
