# \[Workaround\] Syslogs Ingestion via ActiveGate version 1.347 presenting empty data

### ActiveGates that have updated to version 1.347 are presenting empty Syslog data

This situation is caused by a change in default behavior for syslog handling when ingesting non-standard syslogs (not adhering to RFC 5424 nor RFC 3164 formats).

As a workaround you can update the following yaml file:  
_/var/lib/dynatrace/remotepluginmodule/agent/conf/syslog.yaml_

Find the following line (estimated line 42):

```auto
- set(body, attributes["message"])

```

This will need to be updated to:

```auto
- set(body, attributes["message"]) where attributes["message"] != nil

```

_Oct 27, 17:00 UTC:_ There is a fix being developed and is estimated to be released within the next 24 hours to revert the default handling change.

_Oct 27, 14:00 UTC:_ A fix has been deployed and is publicly available. These steps are no longer be necessary with ActiveGate 1.347.72+. If you wish to remove the change, you may do so, though there should not be any negative impact if left in place.
