Our customer asked to get an alert when the API endpoint is not reachable.
Message can be seen on the K8S page but we didn't find a way to send an alert on it.
We added custom alert on missing K8S core metric but this is just a workaround.
Is there a way to send alerts on those messages OOTB?

I was about to suggest the custom event for alerting with data missing enabled.
I am also interested in this too, let's see if is something already present and we need to enable it, or if we will need to create an Idea for it.
You can integrate with third party and check if there is a problem card generated that can be pulled using api and integrated with tool like SNOW or remedy tool. If not than custom alerts the way you are doing would be the only option. I need to replicate this and verify if the problem card is getting generated for such scenario.
