Ability to accentuate key release dates in charts

campbell_purvis

Hello. I have a requirement to improve highlighting of our
key release dates against charted data. Currently we set Custom Events against
specific timelines that are highlighted in charts through the Heat Field
horizontal bar. Current charts have a tiny little vertical bar displaying the
heat field timeline. See first attachment.

What we would prefer is a much more prevalent indication of
this event, possibly looking something like the second (doctored) image
attachment.

Additionally, when generating a report against the dashboard
charts, the heat field/custom event is not displayed at all. This much older
post suggests this was regression. Can anyone confirm?

Many thanks, Cam

Hi

With 6.5 we introduced a new "Incident" that is called "Deployment". Every System Profile has this "Incident". We know that using our "Incidents" for something like a custom event is not the perfect solution - but - it turns out to be working for us.

Now: the key point is that you can use the REST API to create a "Custom Event/Incident" for the "Deployment Incident" in your System Profile. Since 7.0 we also visualize these Deployment Events in the Web UI with a more prominent vertical line.

We showed that new capability in the "Whats new in Dynatrace AppMon May 2017 (v7)" release video which you can find on Dynatrace University or on our YouTube Channel: http://bit.ly/dttutorials

Here is an example call

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<incident>
<message>Test Message</message>
<description>Test Description</description>
<severity>warning</severity>
<start>2013-12-18T04:31:12.772+01:00</start>
<end>2013-12-19T04:30:00.000+01:00</end>
</incident>

Hi Andreas, great information and video link. The REST API call will be ideal for our pipeline and we are planning the V7 upgrade in the next month so will welcome the additional visualisation that provides. Many thanks for your reply. Cam

As Andy said, with the REST API you can create your custom incident, marking the new deployment:

Then you will have the information in the WebUI :

and in the FatClient (Incidents):

HI Rodrigo, thank you very much for the additional information, we are going to implement this from our pipeline.
