AppMon v7.1 agent update procedure

Hi

I'm looking for further information on the AppMon 7.1 agent update process that I cannot find in the online documentation. I understand that since the release of AppMon version 7.1 (April 2018), agents are referred to as either Classic or AppMon agents. Additionally, within 7.1 there is a new feature that gives you the ability to switch between the Classic and AppMon agents that are connected to your collectors/server.

My question is, can we deploy the new AppMon agent simply by updating the server and collector to v7.1, thereby pushing the update out to the agent machine (effectively similar to the bootstrap mechanism), or do we have to deploy entirely new agent software from the dynatrace download site (for v7.1) to each machine that has a classic agent? This would involve considerable effort so if there is an option to auto update and avail of the new features of AppMon v7.1 agent then I am interested to hear.

This was actually present in March 2017 (7.0) as well. As long as the bootstrap agent (visible in agents overview) is later than 6.x you can just configure which platform you want to use within the client and the changes go into effect after app restart. This page has the instructions for switching:

You have quite a bit of control over which agents will switch too so pretty easy to switch a subset and test. You can always revert back the same way too.
