Can dynatrace-migration work with targetDTHome path within sourceDTHome path?

Will dynatrace-migration tool be able to work with having target-home located within source-home?

e.g.

java -jar dynatrace-migration.jar -migration -sourceDTHome "C:\Program Files\dynaTrace" -targetDTHome "C:\Program Files\dynaTrace\dynaTrace 6.5"

Hello Ricky,

A very tricky question but I guess it should work because of different paths for the source and target.

Yes. It would work. dt migration utility doesn't care about the target location as long as it has dynatarce binaries in target location and source & target not sharing the same root directory.

Hi Ricky,

It should work, but I would recommend using the two step process of creating an archive first and then importing the archive. In your case, was an install of an older version done directly into "C:\Program Files\dynaTrace"?

Thanks,

dave

Yes, the old version 6.3 was installed directly into "C:\Program Files\dynaTrace". I want to add the distinction for easier future migrations.

OK, you should be fine then!

Hi Ricky,

do I understand correctly that you installed 6.3 into "C:\Program Files\dynaTrace" and 6.5 into subdirectory "C:\Program Files\dynaTrace\dynaTrace 6.5"?

I would strongly recommend to resolve this situation and have distinct directories (so I would migrate from "C:\Program Files\dynaTrace\dynaTrace 6.5" to for instance "C:\Program Files\dynaTrace 6.5" with the migration tool and when having done backups, delete the full "C:\Program Files\dynaTrace" folder.

The way the migration tool works (file name filters) this may cause issues with collecting both files from 6.3 and the 6.5 subfolder. This was never tested and would strongly recommend to resolve for all installations.

Best regards,

Thomas
