Can we get count of hogging threads along with the incident when it is logged

Hi Team,

We have created an incident rule for logging an incident when the number of hogging threads exceeds certain count. Will it be able to get the count of hogging threads along with incident when it is logged?

Thanks

Praveena

Hello Praveena,

Doesn't the incident already tell you what the count was that led to the threshold being crossed? In the violation section of the alert, it should tell you what the count of the hogging threads was that triggered the incident.

Additionally, you can also add an action called "Thread Dump Action Plugin" which you can use to automatically trigger a thread dump every time the incident is raised as well.

Another option you have is creating a dashboard which charts the number of hogging threads and making a reference to it in the "Linked Dashboard" column of the Incident settings.

Hope this helps,

Ari

Thanks Ari. Yes we have specified in incident rule that if number of hogging threads exceeds particular value then incident should be logged. But here I want to know the count of hogging threads at the particular time the incident was logged along with the incident. Is it possible?

Yes creating dashboard will chart the number of hogging threads but we need to get the count along with the incident logged as it needs to be informed to the specific team.

Thread dump action plugin is only used to create thread dump at the moment the incident logged. But it will not give information of number of hogging threads present at that time along with the incident logged right?

Please look into this @Ari P.

Can you attach a screenshot of the incidents you are getting emailed? The incident itself should tell you how many threads are hogged which triggered the incident.

Hi Ari,

The incident is not showing like how many threads are there at particular time when incident get logged. PFA @Ari P.

That doesn't look like an incident from Dynatrace AppMon. Can you attach the one you get from the tool?
