Docker Configuration for hostname in AppMon

When running docker containers, you may be presented with this odd naming convention of the containers. Here is an example. As you can see, the hostname is a cryptic hash in Dynatrace AppMon.

If I want to have the hostname represented as the container name or even a hostname I need to adjust the yml file.

I can simply add the hostname to the configuration.

After you add the hostname, this is now represented in AppMon as something that is understandable.

In this case, I called it "fronted"

We can also see this in the WebUI.

I now know if the container is the "backend" or "fronted".

I've used docker before in PDP and this is truly helpful information for people that are interested. Although I am not sure if this should be listed as a question, were you trying to ask something?

Thanks

Tony

Agreed, it is really not a question, just informational....Maybe one of the admins can move it...

Thanks Jeff for presenting your findings. I'll integrate appropriate hostnames into easyTravel in Docker on GitHub to permanently fix this issue.
