Dynatrace Client not starting

Hi

I have a dynaTrace 6.0 client which launches the splash screen and then fails to start without displaying any error messages. It was working fine on Friday ?!? Webstart client does the same thing. Its a Windows 7 machine (which is due to the fact that when I rolled it out the script recorder was not support on Windows 8).

There is no diagnostic information in the windows event log and seemingly nothing in the client directory indicating what the the problem is. The client simply fails to start.

I have tried updating to latest version of Java, setting JRE_HOME environment variable, reinstalling the client software but no luck ??

Dear Gregor,

I have never experienced this problem with the Dynatrace Client myself, but I have experienced it with the Dynatrace Webstart Client. For some reason it was pointing to the wrong version of Java. Therefore I performed the following actions:

  • Downloaded the client.jnlp via the Dynatrace dashboard http(s)://<dynatrace server>:802(0|1) and right click on Webstart Client, save link as.
  • Right mouse clicke and select Open With.
  • Select the option Choose Default Program...
  • Select Look for another App on this PC
  • Browse to where you the latest Java libraries. In case you have Dynatrace Client installed as well it can be found under <dt install dir>\jre\bin
  • Select the jawaws.exe

The above steps worked for me. After that I uninstalled all Java versions and reinstalled the latest Java version on my pc.
