How to alert on baseline violations for throughput?

sjoerd1

In my project I need to do the following:

  • There's a KPI "Number of prints"
  • KPI is monitored per country
  • The number of prints is over weeks quite constant in spread per country
  • I need to ALERT when less prints per hour are done than expected based on previous week

Issue: If I mark a BT as Monitored Business Transaction for this application, bandwidth of "Throughput" is calculated, but I cannot set a violation detection.

So the problem is:

  1. I cannot use static values as minimum (as people tend to sleep at night, there is no traffic in specific hours, and a lot of expected traffic in others)
  2. Throughput bandwidth is exactly what I need, but doesn't allow for alerts

Anyone any good idea how to solve this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sjoerd,

As a solution for the zero/minimum output alerting, have you considered using an alert with a Downtime scheduled for specific times where no traffic is expected? This would then allow at least alerting if the throughput is lacking during the busy hours.

Regarding the throughput baseline violations there is an existing RFE regarding this. If you would like please upvote this for added visibility!

Kind regards

Anton

Hi Anton,

Thank you for your answer. The only disadvantage is that I then have to make an individual Incident rule for every splitting (+-200) worldwide, in several timezones...

I'll consider anyways to use this for the main splittings...

Cheers,
