How to monitor changes in linux file system?

I am looking for a way to monitor and alert on the status of a cron job running on a host monitored by Dynatrace. This cron job runs a script that goes out and looks for updates on an external server and copies the new data back to our local file system. There is a separate cron job that looks at the external server to see if files have been removed and if so cleans them from the local system. So basically the file system is growing and decreasing all the time. My thought was to monitor the file system size for any changes over a period of maybe 75 minutes. Is there a way that this can be done with OOB features or plugins?

Hello Andrew,

AppMon supports monitoring of local or remote UNIX systems via the Unix Monitor.

Linux File System Status Plugin.

How would these tools allow me to setup an incident that watches for a change (delta) of 0 opposed to violating a threshold?

Hello Andrew,

Once you will Install and configured the monitoring system then you can also create incident rules for available measures.

An alternative option might be the "Generic Execution Plugin", which allows you to run pretty much any bash code (via ssh) and create measures from it, maybe it can be used to set up some monitor here.
