Impact of AppMon agent on a server

kisu_pyo

Hello,

This is a common question of customers when they have to install agent on their servers at first. But I want to know specific data or figure to back up the answer.

When an agent is installed on a certain server, how much CPU or memory does the agent occupy? For example, an agent occupies 2MB and use a certain amount of CPU, but there should be a certain figures for this. And is there any other issues to be considered when an agent should be installed in the aspect of performance? It would be helpful when I have to guide to install this agent on a customer's server.

Thanks.

Hello Kisu,

You are right about the question especially when someone is going to install on the production servers.

Below is the overhead chart from lowest to highest in the production and non-production environments.

Note the overhead highly depends on the instrumented application and the level of instrumentation!

Hi Kisu,

As mentioned above, the agent will try to govern itself to the overhead levels in that table, based upon the type of environment license. However, the more sensor groups you place, the more details you capture, and custom method sensors you create can increase the overhead. The only way to get a direct value for this is by performing a CPU sample on the target server/App and reviewing how much is attributed to Dynatrace.

Hope this helps,
