Issue while generating report

Hi,

we recently upgraded to dynatrace version 7.0, After upgrade when we are trying to generate a report with huge data we received "the maximum length of cell content (text) is 32,767 Characters" error message. We did increase rows limit in dtserver.ini and dtclient.ini files and added report limit in dashboard still issue is remains. Please let me know if anyone of you want what was the rootcause for this issue.

regards,

Sathwika

HI Sathwika,
it is the limitation of old Excel xls format, you should export to xlsx format. If you already use this format, you could answer the following questions

is the report manual or scheduled?

you could insert the screenshot of the configuration of the "reporting" parameter of the dashlet and tell me which flags you added to the dtserver.ini file

Did you restart the server after entering the flag?

Regards
Lazaro

Sathwika,

I was able to get the report to generate in your environment by making two changes:

  1. Change report type to Excel 2007 as Lazaro suggests. 32,767 cell character limit in Excel 2003 is detailed here https://excel.tips.net/T003163_Character_Limits_fo...
  2. Change the report orientation to landscape. For whatever reason the report still won't generate for me in Excel 2007 when portrait orientation is selected.

Including the rest of the prerequisites for others to reference. To increase the default report limit of 5000 rows:

  • Add the following to dtserver.ini file, making sure to add the setting directly after -vmargs, not at the bottom:
-vmargs
-Dcom.dynatrace.diagnostics.reporting.maxTableRows=10000
  • Add the following to your dtclient.ini file within the /.dynatrace/ directory in your user folder, making sure you add the setting directly after -vmargs, not at the bottom:
-vmargs
-Dcom.dynatrace.diagnostics.reporting.maxTableRows=10000
  • Restart Dynatrace Server
  • Restart Dynatrace client
