Migrating the PW to a newer version of SQLServer

So the DBAs want to migrate the Dynatrace Performance Warehouse from SQLServer 2012 to 2014, Is there any best practices there? We will connect on a different host and port, is it safe to disconnect, BACKUP/RESTORE the database and reconnect with no data loss?

Thanks!

Hi David,
should be no problem with normal DBA knowledge. I don´t think there is much fancy in the PWH DB except optional partitioning (with bigger installations).
If you are already on 2012, 2014 should do it equally well and not have any compatibility issues. Actually, the SS version (something like "feature level") is stored with the DB.

You sure want to have a backup, yes. If you got the 2012 still running I think it is sufficient to detach the DB and attach it then to the new server.

My 2 cent

Thanks Guenter! That was what we were looking for!
