Multiple UEM visits for same user and IP

I'm still pretty new to Dynatrace and UEM. We've setup UEM to tag by login ID (we use a method parameter to get the userid). I see there are times when Dynatrace shows multiple visits for the same user name and IP address, other times, it keeps them all in the same UEM visit. I'm just wondering...how does UEM determine when to create a new visit and when to keep the actions together in one visit? I thought it created a new visit when either the username changed, the IP address changed or both. The timestamps all line up (for example, one visit ends at 14:31:33 and next one starts at 14:31:54).

Hi @Melissa,

have you defined any custom application or are you using the autodetected application definition?

In such case please check if the two visits are reporting different applications in the Applications column.

Hi Melissa,

UEM is configured per application defined by URI/AppID pattern. A visit can't cross applications, if customer is accessing two apps, it will result in two visits, even if it was without a timeout

Please see below link for more details on Managing UEM Visits Volume.

Thanks,
