Need to enable alert integration with BMC Event Management (BEM)

We are in the process of rolling out Dynatrace and would like to integrate Dynatrace alerts into our enterprise MOM (Monitor of Monitors) for alerting with is BMC Event Management (BEM).  We have other monitoring tools which also feed alerts through BEM.

I have been unable to find any quality documentation on how to enable this integration, and I would like to understand how and where to configure this integration to BEM in Dynatrace for alerting.

Hi Andrew

I am not familar with BEM but I assume the typical "integration" would be to send SNMP traps to BEM or make calls to a REST/Web Service that BEM provides for external tools to feed in the alerts. Dynatrace provides many Alert Plugins. Check out Incidents and Alerting - it explains how Alerting works in dynatrace and also explains how to setup the SNMP Action which gets installed with the product out-of-the-box. I also recently recorded a YouTube Tutorial on basic alerting which you might find intersting:

We used BMC BPPM as the umbrella system for all events in the enterprise. We used two types of integration with Dynatrace.

1) Simple SNMP traps using the dynatrace SNMP action plugin as suggested by Andi.

2) Using Generic Execution Plugin to execute msend (BMC executable to send events).

Hey Sreerag,

We are trying to do the same thing, and these two options are on top of our list. Which option would you prefer with the following considerations:

a)      Events must be identifiable by either the host or the application.

b)      Omnidirectional is a minimum (events flow to BEM) but bidirectional would be a plus (events flow to BEM, event information such as ticket number flow back to Dynatrace).

c)       Determine where deduplication will be conducted. Dynatrace or BEM.

d)      Determine the best mechanism for associating related events and where this will be conducted.

e)      Preference is to send/receive both events and event clear messages.

f)       Solution must be reliable and must either fail safe or allow detection of failure.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Meanwhile, a lot of time has passed. Is there a solution for this?
