Question about the measurement "Compile" of DB Agent

Hi,

I want to ask about meaning of "Compile" value of Database Agent for SQL Server.
https://community.dynatrace.com/community/display/DOCDT63/Database+Health+Monitoring

There are words "SQL Compilation & Re-Compilation".
We usually use the measurement "parse" (hard parse / soft parse) for expressing SQL analysis.
And, I think that PL/SQL might be compiled. (SQL will not be compiled.)

In this description of "SQL Compilation & Re-Compilation", what does it mean?

Which Value of V$ Table is the souce of "SQL Compilation & Re-Compilation"?

Best Regards,

Mai Sannohe

Hi Mai,

it depends if you are monitoring Oracle or SQL Server. We have different metrics for different database platform and each database platform uses different terminology.

For Oracle, the Time Spent Breakdown shows time spent in Parsing (both Hard and Soft parsing together).

For SQL Server, we capture the metric SQL Compilation & Re-Compilation. SQL Compilation in SQL Server is similar to hard parsing with Oracle. More information can be found in the official SQL Server documentation: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190911....

Hope this helps,
Sonja
