Support for Apache ActiveMQ

As there will be movement in our company away from WMB brokers and movement to use Apache ActiveMQ in its place can someone please tell me if Dynatrace appmon supports ActiveMQ, to what extent, in what version and where I could find more information on this?

Thanks,

David

Dynatrace AppMon 6.5 supports Apache Active MQ 4.x / 5.x.

Hi David,

Please note that AppMon instruments the JMS producer / consumer API. So the JMS server itself has not to be instrumented. But as Ingo already stated: it is supported.

Thanks Harry and Ingo! Appreciate it! I was asked by the MQ team if it did support it. However, the real question is beyond what they are asking is does it give the visibility that the WMB broker agents give. If their decision to move their infrastructure to ActiveMQ from WMB is partially based on not losing visibility its going to be important for me to understand the difference. It is sounding like it is not as fully supported as WMB and there will be a lot of visibility missing that the company is used to with the wmb broker agents. Is that a safe statement to make?

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

This is difficult to answer. Both servers are not comparable and it also highly depends on the used API (JMS with ActiveMQ?). PurePaths and visibility will be different.

Thanks Harry, I appreciate yours and Ingo's input! It is definitely a tough question no doubt. But still you guys gave me great info!

Thanks,

David
