URL Monitor Incident

Hi Geeks,

I have a requirement to setup an Incident based on URL monitor.

My URL monitor should run on my app servers and the path is gonna be /index.jsp and I have chosen multiple app servers and specified a condition based on response text to determine it is success.

Basically, I would want to hit http://servername/index.jsp on all my servers and check if the particular text is available in reponse, if not I would need an alert email.

Questions:

1. Should I set up an individual URL monitor for every server ?

2. What is the best practice to accomplish this ?

Please give some detailed steps, that would be more helpful to create it from scratch.

Regards,

Murthy

Hello Murthy,

You can create an hostgroups from the Settings > Dynatrace Server > Infrastructure and then add all your hosts in that group.

While creating the incident rule you can choose that group.

Hi @Gymboree W.,

Please go through the below video, it explains clearly how to setup URL Monitor and based on the monitor results setup an incident

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ysh_HL8HDoA&index=...

1. Should I set up an individual URL monitor for every server ?

When configuring URL Monitor -> add host section click on "+" to hosts.

url-config1-hosts.jpg

Then select "Create Host" as like in image url-config2.jpg

Then Configuring URL Monitor for app servers, Click on "Create Host" and add "http://servername/index.jsp". So in a single monitor by add different hosts you can achieve this, no need to create number of monitors for this

For example:

url-config3.jpg

Main point to be noticed is monitors executes from the Collector machine only.

Hope this may helps!!

Thanks
