WCF NetTCP EntryPoint Application Detection

Bert_VanderHeyd

Since AppMon 6.5, Dynatrace is able to identify application based on EntryPoint. This is very helpful since we support a customer with a client-server (WPF - WCF) application.

Before everything was detected as Default Application and now we could define EntryPoints.

However, since not all clients are instrumented, most purepaths start at the WPF services which are bound via NetTCP. So, the Entry Points are always the same. Coming from the WPF libraries.

So, we have now defined the largest Application (APP1) via these entry points and it works, but we are unable to define other applications. In fact, every app that uses WCF, and there are a few, are all detected as APP1.

I guess this is working as designed since the entrypoint is in fact the WCF library. But it would be very helpful for us to add something like "Remoting target" as an option to define Applications.
Clicking the details of the WCF Entry Point shows us already the Remoting Class and Method, so the information is there.

Should I create an RFE or are there other workarounds?

Hi Bert

This is a great RFE! We already have additional ideas on extending our custom app detection. Yours sounds very reasonable. Would you mind posting this as an IDEA on the forum and post the link to it on this forum entry?
