WebSphere Single Server Plugin - which measures to use?

Hi,

I'm trying to chart how many times a servlet was used.

I've been trying to do that through charting the measure:

  • Average Statistic Avg Count

but i've received values that far greater than the times the servlet ran.

My charting aggregation was "average".

Does anyone know what metric should i use and how to aggregate it?

Daniel

Hi Daniel

Instead of using the WebSphere Monitoirng Plugin - have you tried to chart the number of PurePaths split by your Servlet Endpoints? You could for instance create a Business Transaction that splits by the measure "Web Requests - Servlet/Page Name". This will now give you a great overview of how many requests come in on each Servlet EndPoint. these numbers are also based on PurePaths - so - you can also drill to the PurePaths in case you want to diagnose issues. You can also put this BT on your Monitoring Overview Dashboard so that Dynatrace automatically baselines throughput, failure rate and response time for you

Hi Andi,

Thanks for you answer - That's indeed a great way to do that.

But the situation is that the customer does not have an agent running on his WAS, so he is trying his best to get information through the plugin. The measures for that plugin are a bit confusing and I was hoping to understand them myself.
