Why would an Oracle database get recognized as a generic database in the Work Flow

One of our child resources is instrumenting their applications into DynaTrace AppMon as part of the consolidation of tooling into our parent organization. They have got the agent active and we see the data collection through AppMon but the Oracle database used by the application is being shown as a generic database rather than as an Oracle instance.

The application is running on JBOSS EAP 6.3 and 6.4

ojdbc7.jar oracle driver is used to connect to the oracle data sources.

We would like to see the Database as an Oracle data source through AppMon if possible or if not would like to understand why it is not recognized as an Oracle database.

Attaching screen captures of what is being seen in AppMon and some additional configuration information

Any assistance with this question would be appreciated

Hi Beth,

DB detection depends on several factors: Used AppMon version, exact version of JBoss and how the datasource is accessed (Spring, Hibernate,..). I recommend opening a support case and attach a session with JDBC aggregation turned off.

Thank you for the feedback. I'll open the support case shortly

Was there a resolution to your support case?

It looks like it was caused by the use of an unsupported driver:

"... I can see the implementation used for the connection pool: org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc

This is not a standard JMX implementation as it offers the metrics in a different way. There is a collector plugin metric that can retrieve these metrics:
https://community.compuwareapm.com/community/display/DL/JBoss+7+Datasource+Monitoring+Plugin"

According to the support case this should now be supported in 6.5 but you will need to enable statistics since it is not on out of the box (not sure what that last part means honestly).

James

Hi,

The last part means, that with Wildfly the defined datasource must have enabled the statistics attribute, otherwise you will not receive any values from the connection pool usage.
