deploying dynatrace to azure cloud

Hi , we are currently using https://community.dynatrace.com/community/pages/viewpage.action?title=How+to+deploy+Dynatrace+Agents...

this method to push dynatrace agent to the azure cloud, Agent starts and runs fine , but seems like Agent doesnt gets installed as a software ( doesnt appear in programs and features) , double clicking the dtagentconf opens the usual dynatrace GUI . this is the folder structure which gets

created in the VM after the cloud deployment

note : "manualy double clicking the dynatrace-agent.msi which is inside the folder that gets created installs dynatrace agent as a Software in the computer "

so I have got a question , is it a normal behaviour ( running dtagent as a service without installing dynatrace agent in the windows programs ) ? , or am I missing something

Hi

For AppMon this is normal behavior. The Agent itself IS NOT a windows service. The Agent is simply a DLL that will get loaded into your .NET processes

Besides our support for Azure with Dynatrace AppMon & UEM I also want to point out our new capabilities for Azure with our Dynatrace SaaS / Managed offering that already uses our new Dynatrace OneAgent technology. I recently recorded a youtube tutorial with our MS Technology Lead where he talks about which use cases we support: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFRUiPiCuHw&list=P...

Hi ,

Thanks for the support , I wanted to try out the new dynatrace OneAgent Extenstion by adding it to our Azure portal, unfortunately I cant add the extension because we are using Azure as a Cloud service , is there any work around for this ?

many thanks

Sajidh

Hi Sadjih,
whether you're using AppMon or Dynatrace SaaS - Azure Site-Extensions are only applicable to Azure App-Services and not Azure Cloud-Services.

If your're going to proceed with AppMon on Azure Cloud-Services, please stick with the tutorial in your initial post. If your're trying to use Dynatrace SaaS on Cloud-Services please follow Martin's tutorial posted a few minutes back.

For monitoring Azure CloudServices with OneAgent in particular, please follow the guidelines here: https://github.com/dynatrace-innovationlab/azure-cloud-services

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any trouble

Martin

Hi Martin ,

We are trying to use dynatrace managed on azure cloud services and i could see the site extension cannot be used and we can install the one agents via start-up scripts.

The link that you have given seems to be broken & i could see only the scripts for App mon agent installation.

Could you help us on how to process with the one agent installation for cloud services ?

Thanks & Regards ,

Suganya

Hi Sadjih,

you're basically right with your investigation. In a typical scenario, manually installing the agents using the MSI, they appear as any other software and can be also uninstalled that way.

For azure cloud-services, the MSI is used as an archive and just extracted. within the automation powershell scripts. This is the reason why you don't see it within the installed software list.
