does apache need to be restarted each time you start/restart the webserver agent?

We have a scenario where we had a web server agent bootstrapped to 6.2 and the dynatrace module that was added to the apache conf file was pointing to 6.0.0 and was running. when we stared the 6.0.0 web server agent both was instrumented without us having to restart apache.

Avin,

After performing an upgrade to the agent, both the Web Agent and Apache will need to be restarted to automatically upgrade (First the Web Agent Service, then Web Instance/Apache it is running on).

While your old version will continue to work, it is recommended to upgrade the Agents to the newest version that your AppMon Server is running.

For more information about Agent Upgrades: https://www.dynatrace.com/support/doc/appmon/insta...

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

Thank you very much for the answer that really clears some confusion we had. Another question if the versions are the same and the web server agent is just restarted must the apache be restarted as well or it can run without a restart?

Once you restart the Web Agent, it will upgrade automatically. If Apache isn't restarted, the Web Server should still run fine, but the agent may not work correctly until Apache is restarted due to the version difference.

Usually I will restart the Web Agent Services the night of a scheduled application recycle so the agent will work as soon as the app recycles.

Thanks,

Jason
