consolidated monitoring from Database Service – Classic

Hello Dynatrace Community,

We are currently using Database Service – Classic and Dynatrace is able to successfully discover our Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL Global Cluster databases along with individual database details. However, we are facing a challenge when it comes to consolidated monitoring.

Our Scenario

  • One Aurora PostgreSQL Global Cluster
  • Multiple databases across primary and secondary regions
  • Dynatrace shows each database individually

Challenge

We are looking for a way to consolidate all databases belonging to the same Aurora PostgreSQL Global Cluster into a single dashboard for easier monitoring.

Guidance on:

  • Best practice to group Aurora PostgreSQL databases by global cluster
  • Whether entity tags, management zones, or entity selectors can be used
  • How to build a cluster-level dashboard using:
    • Metrics Explorer
    • DQL
    • Database Service entities
  • If Dynatrace provides any native support for global cluster–level views

Goal

A single dashboard that provides:

  • Availability
  • Response time
  • Throughput
  • Errors
  • Key DB performance metrics
…for all databases within the global cluster

Any recommendations, examples, or documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @karthikmv,

I think in Managed the only way to tag the database services (maybe also difficult to create auto tag rules for Aurora PostgreSQL Global cluster) and based on the tags you can organize them into MZ (/Aurora PostgreSQL Global cluster).

Maybe other community members will correct me.

Best regards,

János
