We've noticed that a lot of extensions are beginning to upload default dashboards in the new UI.
However we don't have the ability to use the management zones to filter the data on those nor on the self-created ones for that matter.
They are promoting segments for this however there are a lot of big differences between segments and management zones. Although technically you can do the same with both, because of the differences in syntax for the filters you have to adapt every management zone (which can have exclusions in filters) to segments (which only have inclusions in filters).
I already have a statement to create the variable for the management zones but that variable can't be used to effectively filter the data to be shown. This is still one of the main reasons we can't move to the new dashboards as our entire security model is based on management zones as directed by dynatrace at the start of the project.
So in short, it would be nice to have the management zone back as main filter on top of the dashboards and like in the classic you should be able to have any widget adhere to it or have a fixed management zone.

Hi,
The Management Zone is a Gen2 concept that will not be transitioned to Gen3 for now. The Segment is not the same as the "Management Zone" in Gen3, as the focus is slightly different. There is some overlap, but they cannot be directly compared (e.g., segments are not used for group permissions in Gen3, where IAM policies and buckets are used instead).
I suggest opening a Request for Enhancement (RFE).

I hear your frustrations. Ideally I would LOVE to see Dynatrace build the logic for the auto conversion of MZ to Segments. Much like they did with Metric Events being able to convert right over to Davis Anomaly Detectors. That will greatly accelerate the adoption.
I made a RFE for that use case - feel free to give it a like: https://community.dynatrace.com/t5/Product-ideas/Add-in-a-conversion-mechanism-to-convert-the-Manage...
