Hello Rajesh,

The nice thing about the Dynatrace SaaS Managed offering is that it is much simpler to setup and deploy than most other tools you have used. There are really only two components that you have to worry about on your end and the rest is handled automatically. The Dynatrace OneAgent is what you install on the host that you want to monitor and this auto detects all the processes running on that host and starts to monitor them. Of course you turn on/off monitoring on specific processes or technologies as you desire.

Next is the optional Security Gateway which acts as a proxy to provide more security if your environment needs it. The one agent encrypts and compresses its data before it is sent out, that is why the Security Gateway is optional. It can also act as a load balancer if in an environment with multiple Data Centers. The Security Gateway would be the first thing you setup, if you decided to have one, then the OneAgent. They automatically connect through the Security Gateway if they detect one. All you monitoring information is then available through the web...no client to install!

Thanks David for you quick support but however I was looking at Dt Managed Server architecture, we are planning to install manage server in our data centre rather then to use Saas model, before that I wanted to understand what is Dynatrace Manage server internal components which is no where found in the documentation. hope my question is clear now. I am looking as earliest as possible Thank you.

Hello Rajesh,

I understand what you are requesting now. Here is the list of all the things that the Dynatrace installer sets up:

The installer sets up the following components in the installation directory (by default, /opt/dynatrace-managed😞

  • Pre-configured Java Runtime Environment (your operating system settings aren't affected by this). Not visible in your alternatives options.
  • Cassandra-based Hypercube storage
  • Elasticsearch-based search engine
  • Dynatrace Server
  • Security Gateway
The Cassandra DB acts the long term storage for your measures and the Elastic Search instance helps to grab the information much faster.

Here is information on the ports, hardware requirements and installation process:

Hi Dave

I do have the same questions, Could I have more details on the below Dynatrace server components, like can they be installed as a individual components on multiple servers. (eg: I would like to have the DB component installed in a dedicated sever etc)

Hello Kamal,

You should setup your Dynatrace deployment since there will be a large amount of data that is stored in the DB and processed by Elasticsearch. This link talks about the ports that will need to be open between the server and the other components in the cluster:

https://help.dynatrace.com/dynatrace-managed/dynatrace-server/which-network-ports-does-dynatrace-server-use/?_ga=2.21960562.835268710.1502720374-1202939376.1500917309

What I would suggest is opening a support ticket with the Dynatrace team to have them provide suggestions on the sizing of these components depending on your environment. They would be more prepared for that sort of conversation.
