Why a service request appears like "*"?

Hi all.

SaaS environment shows requests as "*". This environment has following features:

  • one instance AWS EC2
  • all services are docker images
  • load balancing, firewall, CDN provided by AWS CloudFront
  • aplicactions use services through Zuul API Gateway. API Gateway is running on docker image.
  • service flow only shows one level: web app -> web request service (under NGINX). But all requests to API Gateway don't appear in purepath

Someone has seen something similar?.

If you have any number in process name, dynatrace by default change it into *.

I would open a support chat with Dynatrace just to ensure the application is working as intended and if need be they can assist you with renaming those requests

Ok question is about requests, not service name. If this service is called something like background threads on xxx or unexpected service than marking requests as * is something normal. For background threads you will have to create custom service to change this behaviour.
