Active Directory Monitoring through extension.

Dynatrace offers "2" levels of AD monitoring through the extension:

  1. Active Directory services as the name suggests "the foundational level"
  2. Active Directory extended monitoring. "Comprehensive view for AD Services"

Deployment Tips:

  • ensure the communication is allowed the ad servers and Dynatrace env ags on port 9999.
  • add the extension to your tenant.
  • it's recommended: to Download and install Oneagent even in infra-only mode as initial setup to avoid HU license consumption, if there is license buffer you can enable full-stack for getting full visibility into AD services.
  • Not recommended: monitor it remotely via extension only, but it works fine.
  • while updating the extension, you will be required to update the configurations or delete and reconfigure it again.

Supported windows servers:

  1. 2016, 2019 and 2022.
  2. Only on-premises Active Directory deployments.

Not supported:

  • Azure AD.

Remote monitoring:

  • ensure the AGs are able to reach AD Servers through telnet on port 443.
  • add the AD servers manually, then selected the required metrics sets.
  • save changes.

Hello @Peter_Youssef

Thank you for providing the information. Could you clarify whether there is any consumption of DDUs associated with the Active Directory services extension in conjunction with infrastructure monitoring?

Regards,

Babar

Hi @Babar_Qayyum

Both extensions provide information on the DDU consumption, check out the Q&A section for each for details.

HTH,
André
