Log size metric

Hi Community,

We’re currently planning to enable Grail in our environment. However, before proceeding, the client wants to ensure we understand the potential increase in license consumption this change might incur.

In our current Log Monitoring (Classic) setup, we have log ingestion from two different software applications. On average, we receive 5 million logs and events every 24 hours. I used the metric "Server - Log And Events Monitoring - Events Incoming Count" to measure this, but this metric only provides the count - not the size of the logs.

Since Grail licensing is based on data volume (GiB), we need to know the total size of the incoming logs.

Is there a built-in metric or any other method I can use to get the total size of logs in our environment? Or would I need to contact our Dynatrace representative to retrieve this information? Are they the only ones who can provide this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

5 million logs per day could translate to very different data volumes depending on the average size of each log entry.
Definitely I would recommend contacting your Dynatrace representative
