All,

Are there any known issues/precautions if we are installing an Antivirus software on the AMD machine? I searched the forums and the documentation; I don't see any specifics mentioned.

Thanks,

Harshal.

As the AMD is considered to be a dedicated appliance rather than a general server, and we are doing "unusual" things as far as most antivirus applications are concerned (most AV consider putting a NIC into promiscuous mode in and of itself very highly suspicious), we do not support having antivirus on the AMD.

That said, there are several companies that have done so, and I'm only aware of a couple instances where it has caused an issue beyond the expected resources impact (which can be severe).

Echoing Eric's response, it's usually the performance impact that hits the AMD most. extra CPU time and delays on file operations at critical times.
