CAS running on UCS blade server

sylvian_lam1

Hello,

I'd like to know anyone tried CAS 12.4 on UCS blade server instead of rack server? Any impact or concerns if running CAS on blade server? From what I understand, disk performance is a big issue.

Any comment is highly appreciated.

Thx

Sylvian

Sylvian,

Yes disk performance is generally the issue. Typically you can only get 2 or maybe 4 disks into a blade, reducing spindle count thus overall IOPS. You could opt for SSD's, but they are either cost or space prohibitive.

The other option, is an external SQL Server with it's own fast spacious disk, or SAN storage.

As long as the SQL performance is great enough, there's no other reason why you can't run a CAS on a blade.

Thanks for your comments, Chris.

I checked with local vendor, it seems rack server will be better for disk performance sake. SSD is $$$.

In terms of number of disks..(RAID 10, 1.2TB usable). 15K rpm.... and usually SAN storage won't use 15K rpm disk.... so I'll go for rack server instead.

Hi Sylvian, did you complete this effort? How did it go?
