I followed the documentation at https://community.dynatrace.com/community/display/DCRUM123/User-Defined+Metrics+in+DMI+Data+Views (as the 12.4 documentation does not exist.) to create the sample user-defined metrics with file.. (See .dmi-dataview-test-properties.txt , had to change to file name to allow it to upload, it should be dmi-dataview-test.properties). Following the docs, when I put the file in the CAS config dir and refreshed the DMI, the metrics does not appear.
I have restarted the CAS and checked the server.log but no mention is made of the metrics and they do not appear... Are custom metrics still supported in 12.4? If so, how do we get them working...???
The following documentation (12.4 Version) link is for the user-defined metric that extracts values from HTTP or XML requests (for example, HTML pages or SOAP messages).
Babar, this a different functionality. You can create your own metrics in DMI, based on simple calculations of metrics available out of the box. The functionality did not change since 12.3 and should work according to the doc Anthony linked.
Thanks Babar. I am looking to create some generic user-defined metrics in 12.4 in the same way I have done before in 12.3.. However, it does not seem to work in 12.4 and the documentation is also missing as well in 12.4... Just seeking some clarification...
Please check the following link to configure the user-defined metrics from the RUM Console and for further help you can proceed from the same page:
After more testing we can confirm the procedure still works. Make sure you start your user defined metrics with a .0. (we started with a .1. (due to a copy and paste) and no errors were in the log).
The ID cannot have spaces (this did show an error in the server log)
Ensure you are using supported metric IDs. To get a list of metric IDs - create a report that has the metrics you wish to use and export it. Look at the ids in the exported xml. - per Chris V. - https://answers.dynatrace.com/questions/140818/metric-ids-for-idle-and-network-time.html
